I have a couple of suggestions that would make working on this site easier:

1) Work on being able to stay signed in to forum for longer, especially when writing a longer response. I have lost several posts that I have had to rewrite because I got timed out in the middle of my response.

2) Have a button that allows to save while working without having to close the blog entry.

3) Allow the source code to be seen at the point that I am looking at instead of having to find the spot again after hitting the button.

I really am enjoying working with you and I appreciate your responses.

Hi Dave, make sure you have the box checked "remember me" in the login area top right. It's your browser that is forgetting you are logged in rather than the Surfbirds server. I tend to "select all" and "copy" when I'm writing a long text before hitting "submit" just in case my browser logs me out and I can easily "paste" after logging back in again.

Thanks for your other 2 suggestions. We will add them to the "to do" list and see how difficult it is to add.

One improvement I'd like to suggest - when old posts come up (ones where it no longer says 'today' or 'yesterday', etc), they are often not dated correctly (e.g. this thread: http://www.surfbirds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4828 looks like it is going to be started on 3 June 2009!), due to the peculiar illogical citation order. Could this be corrected to use a logical order like dd-mm-yyyy or yyyy-mm-dd, please?

Hey Michael, Do you say March tenth 2009 or the tenth of March 2009? It seems that it is just a matter of how you were raised. Personally, I say March 10, 2009 and so 03/10/2009 seems natural to me. I bet it can be confusing if you're not used to it though.

I say tenth March 2009.

But the important thing is that dd/mm/yyy (small-medium-large) and yyyy-mm-dd (large-medium-small; widely used in scientific notation) are both logical orders; mm/dd/yyyy (medium-small-large) is illogical, and quite ridiculous. Saying "03/10/2009" is comparable to saying something is 3 feet, 10 inches and 2009 miles long, without specifying which are feet, inches or miles. Very unhelpful!

I understand what Michael is getting at - the date thing is something that could easily be sorted by having the month appear as letters (as it does in the join date under the user name for each post).

Unless I have been wrongly informed Americans tend to write dates as month-date-year, while Europeans (or at least the British) are more familar with day-month-year.

For todays date 11 Mar 2009 would remove all possible confusion (while 11-03-2009 could be read by Americans as 3rd Nov - which is the date I would normally take 03-11-2009 to mean).

Mar-11-2009 or 11-Mar-2009 can only mean one date though.

Just to cut the ....,

The only logical way to give numeric only dates is "day, month, year" - e.g. the 11th March 2009 or March 11th 2009 should be given as 11/03/09. Total nonsense to do it any other way.

In Portugal there is no consensus or conformity which results in HUGE misunderstandings at times.

Remember 9/11? - it was September 11th or the 11th of September - the numbers to most Europeans would mean "the ninth of November".

How about now where the month is spelled out?

Better, thanks, but it would be even better still if was 9 March 2009, or 2009 March 9, rather than the very illogical middle-small-large unit order. The 2009 March 9 unit order is the official standard scientific date format http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8601 though the 9 March 2009 unit order is the most widely used worldwide http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calendar_date

I have no problem with changing to whatever method as long as the month is spelled out. Now for a change of pace.

How about a page on the editting section that lists all of the comments so that we can read them without having to go looking for them.

Would it be possible to add the smileys link http://www.surfbirds.com/forum/misc.php?do=getsmilies to the 'Quick Reply' box?

If I want to insert a smiley, I currently have to go to the 'Go Advanced' box, which is a bit more tricky (not so easy to see previous posts, etc). Most of the other 'Go Advanced' features, I hardly ever use unless I want to post a photo.
