For about a week, I have not been able to get onto to the site until now. When I use my bookmarked Surfbirds Forums the eight latest photos show black and I don't get further than 'connecting......'

I have no difficulty with any of my other regular sites. Have you been experiencing problems.

I have had similar problems for several months. This is a rare occasion when I can access the forum. The home page usually works OK and I can get to the forum page but then can't access any topics and like you the latest pictures are all black. When I do try and read a message internet explorer times out. I have tried different browsers with no luck. PC at work has the same problem.

Strangely if I Google a topic and there is a link to a Surfbird forum thread, the link to the thread will work.

This is odd. Now, it does appear the site was down for a power emergency at the hosting data center for a number of hours on Weds, so perhaps, if you tried that day, you wouldn't have had any luck. But every time I've checked (several times per day) the rest of the week, the site including the forum have been online.

It wasn't just a problem on Wednesday but has been going on for a while e.g. couldn't access the site earlier this morning

Had problems again this morning, network timing out when i tried to log on to the forum, when i did manage to get on the first time this morning it was very slow to load up new posts, then it crashed, just loaded the sight up now, which was a little slower than normal, all other websites i visited were fine. Oh and new posts disappeared when i had not read them the first time i logged on this morning.

My wife has been delighted that "that bloody forum wasn't working" - I have managed to paint the front of the house in the past two days!!

Thanks for your patience. No sinister denial of service from hackers but our birding mail archives (archives of yahoo groups and listserves) are draining resources. We had to reboot the server and we need to figure out a better way to archive the mail.

And the "recent photos" facility is still not working - seems to be stuck on some random images from a while ago.

Still working on latest photos at top of forum. We thought we had a solution over a month ago where it just showed latest user to upload a photo (instead of all the photos a user uploads) to prevent flooding of that block. It only partially worked, so we're looking at what went wrong.

Very good, stick at it Andy! What you are attempting to do seems to be the perfect solution, so I hope that you can get it to work.

Getting a bit fed up with looking at those eight images - becoming a bit like wallpaper now!!
