I'll be staying in Setubal for a few days early next month and am looking for info on a suitable location for a day/two birding in typical Alentejo habitat nearby. I've not particular 'wants' list (though could make one fairly quickly !), but just a requirement to be in good birding sites for the time I have available.
I've not (yet) gathered much info on birding in the area, but have some gen on areas near Evora, I gather that about an hour away - about as far as I want to 'commute'.
So, what do you recommend?
Thanks in advance

Three publications you might like to get hold of:
1. "A Birdwatcher's Guide to Portugal and
Madeira" by CC Moore, G Elias & H Costa, published by Prion Ltd
(ISBN # 1 871104 07 6)
2. "Where to Watch Birds in Spain and Portugal" by Laurence Rose, published by Hamlyn (ISBN # 0 600 58404 6)
3. "Finding Birds in Southern Portugal" by Dave Gosney, published by BirdGuides Ltd (ISBN # 1 898110 18 2)
All three cover localities near to where you will be. The Gosney Guide is a bit out of date but still useful and only costs £6. If you could get your hands on the other two more substantial books it might be worth photocopying the relevant sections.

Colin
Thanks for the advice, I'll try to track down those titles and may contact you regarding the Portugese forum.
In the meantime, I'd still be grateful if anyone has any other useful local knowledge of the area and sites at which I could fruitfully spend some time.....
TIA
