My Odonata guru is in the field in Morocco for the next couple of month and the guys at Africa Dragonfly don't know what it is. Any ideas?
It visited my garden in Cairo last week.:puzzled:

Hi Jacqueline,
As I'm sure that you are aware these aren't the best of photos to get an ID from!
It is an Orthetrum species, and from what I can see may be an immature male O. chrysostigma - the photos apparently show two white 'bars' on the side of the thorax though, while this species should only show one (bordered on both sides in black, as is the case on the front bar here) - I am assuming that the 2nd pale bar is a photographic effect caused by light reflecting off the thorax!

Hi Jaqueline,
I agree with Roy that its a teneral male Orthetrum chrysostigma, the second pale bar on the thorax is a photographic effect due to harsh light.
Best Wishes
