View Full Version : Moth identification

I bought a moth trap about 18 months ago and occasionally switch it on, it's quite good fun. However identifying the little gits is much harder even with the book in front of you and the moth on the end of your finger. So far I have managed to identify all but two of my trappings - so any ideas on these?

Thanks

Hi Rob

Your first moth is a very worn Dun-bar
http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=4182

and second one is Bee Moth (Aphomia sociella)http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=5055 which is a Pyralid Moth which may not be in you book depending on which one you use.

Hope this Helps.

Oh I have trapped a Dun-Bar before - durr! The other one is not in the book (the macro moth one by Lewington et al).

Many thanks for that, really appreciated.
