I am not sure whether this topic has been flagged on this forum before - it is certainly new to me but also came up on Yahoo "WestPalBirds" this morning.
This link was sent to me yesterday by Valéry Schollaert in response to a thread I started about "the hunting season" in Portugal on Fórum Aves:

How absolutely, depressingly, dreadful :realmad:

One point worth noting: most of the trees shown in the photos are cypresses. They burn very readily in hot weather.

My initial thought too Michael (but only when the trappers were in there collecting their "catch")!
Have just been sent another link on "Parany":

There is an invitation here to sign a petition and write to the local authorities in Spain, but I am highly sceptical about the effectiveness of such missives, especially from "interfering foreigners".

Don't you just love those Spanish "hunters"?

Apropos interfering foreigners. We, Proact and CABS (http://www.komitee.de/en/index.php?limes)were invited on board after local conservation groups did not get the support they expected from SEO (Birdlife Spain) who were "busy with other matters".
As a result of submitting a detailed monitoring report (made in the field) the Ec have warned Spain and the central government has intervened with he regional government in Valencia. We are not out of the woods yet
I am new to this forum but hope that you are not just an armchair critic Colin.
