Dear Osprey enthusiasts,
I just published a paper about a few previously unknown Osprey behaviors. “Osprey (Pandion haliaetus): Notes on unknown and poorly studied behaviors.” Bulletin of the Texas Ornithological Society. 2009, 42(1-2): 18-36. All described behaviors are documented in photographs and these photos are included in the paper. I can provide a copy of this paper if you are interested. Just send the request to mbb22222 at aol.com.
All the best,
Mark

Hello Mark,
I am also in Houston and member of TOS. I logged onto surfbirds today for the first time in a long time and saw your post. I would love to read your paper. I am sending you an e-mail for a copy.

Jackie

Sorry everybody - I received a few requests but I did not check this forum for quite long. I sent link to download today to everybody who asked but, just in case, now I have a PDF copy available here:

Thanks a lot for your interest. In fact I am trying now to put together a few new notes as I collected a lot of new observations from the time I published the last one. BTW I have already all the answers to question I asked in above paper. I also observed, and photographed, many more new behaviors. Now I need to find time to work on all these materials - but I am more a field person so it may takes some time.
Ospreys are truly fascinating birds.
All the best,
Mark

I just notice that this post was visited over 1000 times - so maybe there are more Ospreys’ enthusiasts than I thought. If anybody is interested I keep a collection of Osprey photographs here:

I should keep adding photos in near future as I am quite behind with updating these galleries.
Ever seen ‘authentic’ first take off and becoming fledgling? It cost me quite a few hours of waiting but it was well worth it. Watching the youngster from sunrise to sunset the day before fledge: flapping, jumping and few times hovering a few feet above the nest. Then next day, after a few more exercises earlier in the morning and a longer rest break just taking off like a pro at 10:30 without even a slightest hesitation. Thanks I kept my camera ready at this moment. Total - eleven flights on that day.
