  • Bird Id

Hi just spotted this in our garden, can anyone help on the id. I'm located in N Lancashire, surrounded by fields and high moorland.

    Thanks

    Hi Phil,

Could possibly be a redwing? It's not showing the red patch under the wing, but that's often the case in this pose. I've attached photos of a fem reed bunting and a redwing in similar pose. (This was taken in my garden just befoe christmas. These birds visit us once a year to eat the b erries of a cotoneaster tree).

(Having problems uploading the redwing picture. I'll have another go in a few minutes)

The original image is a female Reed Bunting. Females and juveniles of this species can be confusing and I have often had to "think twice".

Shape, size (compared to veg), posture and bill rule out Redwing.
