think youn read already in WestPal but I like to let you know that I found a Pintal Snipe or Pin-tailed Snipe Gallinago stenura here dwon in Siracusa, SE Sicily.
First seen and ID as stenura/megala though I'km sure in S Med and Middle East and North Africa stenura is the best candidate always.
Then sound recorded and ID as stenura for sure
indeed I found that megala and stenura share a type call which is very similar (lower pitched in megala) but stenura then have a very frog. high pitched squizzy call sounding like "wee-kk" which is unique I think ....
The bird has been few days ag˛ re-located and seen by two very good birders also (Carlo Capuzzello & Egle Gambino)
In few days the call recording should be available at www.ebnitalia.it
