Hi, I'm based near Andover, Hampshire and have been birding in the UK for longer than I care to remember.

I have a cage type fat ball feeder fixed to the top of a post in my front garden and have noticed that a male Pied Wagtail has taken to feeding from the feeder itself, perching on the bottom edge and reaching in to get food on the floor of the feeder rather than feeding on the ground with the other wagtails that visit.

Is this behaviour unusual? I cannot recall seeing it in previous years and only one bird seems to have adopted this approach.
