    Default Genus Liocichla

I could use some expert help here - according to my notes from the latest Clements updates, the genus Liocichla has been moved to Sugarbirds. But when I went back to doublecheck I couldn't find that anywhere. I know they moved Modulatrix, Arcanator and Kakamega to Sugarbirds (Promeropidae). I'm heading for Eaglenest and it would be a new family (if it's in Sugarbirds) as well as a lifer(s). I know taxonomic headaches are a chore, but is there anyone out there who can shed some light on this "pressing" problem?

As far as I see both Clements and IOC place Liocichla in the family Leiothrichidae (Laughingthrushes).

Thanks, Andre - I had a (sinking) feeling that was the case.

note that the web pages previously referenced also place Hylocitrea (formerly Yellow/Olive-flanked Whistler) with Hypocolius whereas most recent thinking as far as I can ascertain is that Hylocitrea is better placed in a monotypic family. Dan

I heard from John Boyd of the above cited (and fantastic) web site, confirming Liochichla in Laughingthrushes "and will be staying there." Guess I'll have to go to Africa to add Sugarbirds to my family list.
