    Default Spring at Falsterbo, Sweden

I'm spending the spring season ringing and birding at Falsterbo, Sweden, updating my blog more-or-less daily with news from the peninsular. Bad weather held up migration earlier in the season but it seems spring has finally arrived and migrants are beginning to flood in. Today we passed the 1,000 bird mark, with this morning's highlight being an adult female Hawfinch.

For anyone who wants to take a look, my blog can be found at www.stephenmenzie.com

    Best wishes,

The big news here in Sweden yesterday was the discovery of the country's second Black-shouldered Kite, which we successfully twitched. Photographs show it to be a 2cy and the same individual as the Dutch bird on 13 April. Migration is also getting into full swing at Falsterbo with good numbers of Willow Warblers arriving over the last few days, Redstarts, House Martin and, this morning, our first Wryneck ringed. Blog updated with photos of all and some text on the Black-shouldered Kite.

The last week or so has been an exciting period at Falsterbo with plenty of migrants (some exceptionally early), two Collared Flycatchers ringed, and a Short-toed Lark. As always, updates from each day are on my blog http://www.stephenmenzie.com/

I'm away from Falsterbo for a few days now; hoping I don't miss too much while I'm gone!

Although things are getting quieter here at Falsterbo, there's still been plenty of interest over the last week or so. Greenish Warbler, Common Rosefinches, Barred Warbler, Red-breasted Flycatchers etc — all on my blog http://stephenmenzie.com

    Cheers,

I'm back from Falsterbo now; if I'd been asked to predict the most unlikely thing I'd see while I was back over the summer, a Little Swift flying around with the Liverpool waterfront in the background would be near the top of the list... but that's what happened this afternoon http://www.stephenmenzie.com/2012/06...-surprise.html
