I'm new to the Forum and would like any help you may be able to give on identifying the bird that belonged to the feather in this photograph. The feather was about 6 - 7 inches long, 2 inches wide and very striking. It was discovered by a young birder friend of mine who found it in a field next to a country park near Downpatrick in Co. Down, N. Ireland. I've looked and looked online for help but the closest i got was the Ozark Oak Mottled Turkey (?!) from the US of A. Somehow their reputation as an Ocean flyer does not precede them and i don't think one of them would have lost their way in a storm and reached the shores of Ireland! Unless someone brought him over of course. I've sent a few emails to prominent birders but no answers so far; so now is your chance to beat the experts!
I hope i've attached the photograph correctly, apologies if i have not. Unfortunately the image is not very big, hope it does not stop the ID.
