Hi, I'm a newbie bird watcher and live in San Diego, California. I am blessed to be living on a canyon preserve. Urban front yard, nature preserve backyard. I have various feeding areas and running water in my yard and also provide water to the canyon critters.
Two days ago about 6am, I saw 5 small birds that were the size and shape of wrens or a little smaller. They had snow white chests and bellies with small black dots, their wings were a dark chocolate brown, and I could see a small brighter reddish blaze near their ear/eye area. They were all grouped together eating song bird food out of one feeder... the neighbors startled them before I got a good look at eye color etc. They all left at once.
I searched the internet, and my books for hours and am still clueless!
Any advice or info appreciated,
