Hello fellow birders,
Could I please have help in identifying the following bird:
The photo was taken in North Cyprus by a freshwater stream in otherwise arid shrub habitat, within sight of the sea, on 17th October 2008. Yellow legs can clearly be seen, as can a fairly long dark bill, white in front of the eye (but no supercilium) and pale grey-brown upperparts. These clues point to my tentative identification of a vagrant Greater Yellowlegs (Tringa melanoleuca). If that ID is correct, this would be the first record of this species from that country. However, I could be wrong, and this could be a common bird that I have misidentified (I rarely see waders in the wild and am not very competent at identifying them).
Any help/confirmation would be much appreciated.
