what is it
Can someone tell me what kind of bird was in my backyard. I live in Ontario
It is black and white9 (speckled or mottled) with brown wings short tail
It is not a large bird I have looked online and in a bird book and cannot find it.
It came in and ate the popcorn which was good because the juncos , jays, chick-a-dees, and squirrls were not eating it.
If anyone has any idea please let me know

I'm guessing some sort of sparrow. Perhaps White-throated Sparrow? Go to this page:
and scroll all the way down to the bottom and let us know what you think.

Perhaps it is a European Starling. The nonbreeding plumage fits your description and the fact that it ate something that none of your other regular birds ate also suggests it could be a starling.

i am going to get a picture of it and post it. I think I should have not said small bird it is bigger than a sparrow. it also has a very short tail. All was well today as a cardinal came around and those I know.
thank you all for helping and i will get a picture and post it soon.
