I am sorry Neill,
There is nothing at all personal intended. You originally came here to advertise your website and I genuinely wanted to give you some advice; your site was badly put together, the spelling and grammar were appalling and you had flooded it with a gallery of truly dreadful photos, some of which were wrongly identifed. My suggestion that you "get some professional advice" was not meant to be anything other than helpful. I, and others, also felt that your website name was very misleading and had absolutely nothing to do with "twitching" whatsoever - one is left with the impression that you are using the term in the same way that a layman naively does, that is anything to do with birds is twitching. The content of your PM to me was that you had a proven track record, knew it all, and everything was O.K. so you did not need anyone's advice. That's fine by me.
When I subsequently corrected your I.D. of Great Grey Shrike and explained the split of the ssp. meridionalis to full species status as Southern Grey Shrike, I did so politely and was merely pointing out a (quite common) mistake. Your subsequent comments on that were "off track" and revealed a lack of understanding.
I stand by my last comment made about that last batch of photos you uploaded - what is the point in posting a series of nearly identical shots of the same bird at such huge dimensions when the I.Q. of the photos (all very out of focus) is so poor?
If your birdwatching-holiday enterprise is flourishing then I am pleased, but I am still of the opinion that your "shop window" is far from enticing. Even if you did not pay for a professional web designer, just getting someone to proof-read what you are publishing and using fewer but better photos, would be a great improvement, or do you not see that?
I am sorry that you have misconstrued my comments - I certainly do not mince my words, but I am not given to making a personal attack in public. As a self-confessed successful businessman you must surely know that if you stick your head above the trench, you must expect to get shot at now and again.

I agree with Colin and beltonbirder. In my opinion it is all too easy to over react and take things too personally.
But I have to say that I suspect there are some members, including me, that have found Colin to be an f***ing difficult s*d sometimes. This is, however, over shadowed by his knowledge and continuing valuable contribution to this site. He has also come to my rescue when things got a little out of hand in the ID forum and his assistance was much appreciated.
All the best

I hadn't noticed any unduely untoward posts from Colin nor have I found him 'difficult'; in fact in my dealing with him I've found him knowledgable and helpful. However, if Neil's had 58 posts in his support, I suppose I must have missed something.
I've also had a pleasant correspondence with Neil who, in my view, hasn't done himself any service in making this spat public and by "shouting" about it in upper case. I really don't think, however, much though Neil may feel it's justified that this was a sensible route to take. However undiplomatic Colin's critique may have been, I think Neil should focus on the gist of Colin's points rather than react overmuch to the nature of their delivery.
With best wishes to both parties,

This isn't the place for this - other forums are better at this kind of thing as mentioned above.
Col has his idiosyncracies, as do we all, but his heart's in the right place. It would have been nice to see 58 people commenting on 'leading' figures in the birding world ignoring the long arm of the law then getting involved in this. I can only presume the mods haven't seen this thread?
