Default Big trouble for UK and Icelandic seabirds

Analysis of this year's seabird breeding data on RSPB (BirdLife in the UK) coastal reserves shows that Black-legged Kittiwake Rissa tridactyla, Arctic Tern Sterna paradisaea and Parasitic Jaeger Stercorarius parasiticus ? more commonly known as Arctic Skua - have had a terrible season, with virtually no chicks reared to fledging in the far north of the UK. Changes in food supply, which may be linked to climate change, could threaten the future of these species in the UK.

Went to Norway in July and found that the seabirds have not breed in any numbers. The Kittiwakes had not breed in most of the normal sea cliffs. Puffins appeared to have no young to feed and there was no evidence of breeding amongst the Arctic Terns. I spoke to several Norwegian birders that said that seabirds were in steep Decline

Certainly been very quite here in Northumberland, for most of the above species on passage.

Had a very disappointing seawatch year, with low numbers of Terns, Skuas, and Shearwaters.
