Number 62 of Argiope of the asosciation Manche Nature trimestrial in Normandy now out 170 species of hover flies noted in Normandy including 7 new species of hoverfly found in the last two years in Normandy. Also the superfamily Coreiodea of aphids on the large size up to 1 cm across listing 27 species including many on the limit of their distribution at the north-western extremity of great interest if they occur in Jersey.
The hover flies are partly new species to northern France and the Channel Isles.Th Nutcracker in the gardens at Zola Contrie in Nantes is back as are the Lesser White Fronted Geese near creperie des greves at Bourienne at St Brieuc not far from Jersey west of St Malo.
In Jersey Firecrest and Chiffchaffs nearly caught and ringed but too much disturbance in the area by my father unfortunately so I only caught Blackbirds,Robin and Blackcap. Many finches in bushes nearby including Bramblings and Linnets.Good numbers of Redwings around including a good hundred plus near my net.A flight of Godwits overhead at dusk of perhaps Black-tailed disappeared before I could have a good look with binoculars.Water Rail in the stream near the house partly covered in ice but the Water Rail seemed content.A lot of strange calls from birds overhead which I will need to check out tomorrow perhaps a few new species to the area have arrived or perhaps my hearing is a little poor after hearing loud television my parents watch with the sound up at Christmas.
A good web site for birding holidays at:-
of great interest to UK birders in particular their holidays in Brittany for enthusiastic naturalists who want a particularly well informed natural history holiday in Brittany in north-western France.
Kind regards,Bertram.E.B.BREE in sunny Jersey just after sunset.
