Hello from Dave M
Hi, I just joined the forum in the hopes of identifying a strange bird that showed up at our feeder this morning. The thread asking me to say hello is closed, so I'll just say hello here and introduce myself by saying I've been interested in birds since I was a boy growing up in western NY back in the '50s, but would not consider myself a "birder".
Regarding the bird in question, I can best describe it as looking like either (take your choice) a disfigured cardinal or a cross between a cardinal (body) and a turkey vulture (head). The photos aren't great because they were taken through our kitchen window. Any ideas on what this might be?

Welcome to the Forum Dave,
Not sure what species this is, could be a Cardinal (no doubt you will get some input from our N American members before long), but it is for sure a sick bird. The loss of head plumage could be due to parasites, chemical poisoning (herbicide, etc.) or just plain bad health.

Poor little thing. (The bird, not you.)
