Hi, I was recently birding at a spot in southeast Brazil near Ubatuba (Fazenda Angelim). I was using the field guide "All the Birds of Brazil" by Souza. Up pops a good-looking antbird which was quickly identified, using that book, as White-bibbed Antbird. However, I later learned that a similar antbird called Squamate Antbird, which appears to be nowhere in that book, also could be in the area... or perhaps only one of them occurs there. At any rate, does anyone know how to tell the two antbirds apart by visual fieldmarks, or if only one occurs at Ubatuba? The thing is puzzling.
Thanks in advance for any and all comments.
Sincerely, Jim McConnell
