There have been reports over the last few days of an ‘eagle species’ on the Island, with suggestions of Imperial Eagle. It has been seen at Brighstone, Ventnor and between Cowes and Newport. Apparently it has been mobbed by Buzzards (who are used to usually being on the receiving end, rather than dishing it out!) who looked 'tiny' by comparison.
Assuming it is not something that’s absconded from a bird of prey centre or zoo somewhere, this’d be a fantastic record for the island no matter whether it’s an Imperial Eagle or another species. I am going to try and get out to look for it tomorrow, assuming it is still around, not had a chance so far the past few days.
