You know how I talk about my days when I have a good day birding? Well today was the BEST ever!!! I was supposed to play golf today with my friend and he called me last night to cancel. Rude, huh? Well, I didn't want to play golf by myself, so at the last minute I decided that since I had such a good time last week that I would go back to High Island today. I woke up 5 this morning and took off for High Island, getting there at about 7:30. Things were slow, but somebody told me about a Hooded Oriole that was in somebodies back yard down the street. We are not supposed to have Hooded Orioles here, so this guy is lost. He is right where they told me and I took some pictures that were pretty pitiful because of the light. I went back and things were actually slow and I spent the morning working Boy Scout Woods, which is my favorite of the locations there. I got a nice number of species but the numbers were low. I heard about a field trip to the coast to see Terns, Plovers and other Waders, and I thought that I would go, so that I could see what the coastline looked like ( I am not a shorebird lover. They are too hard and I just don't get too excited about them). Anyways, it was OK and I saw and learned alot, but it wasn't what gets me stoked. I came back and it was like they had opened the flood gates of Warblers, Orioles, Tanagers, Buntings and some Grosbeaks! I will get back to the story in a bit, but I had to go to the office to close out the books and I just wanted to let you know that if you can get to High Island, GO!!!!!
I am still downloading pictures and do not want to open my photoshop to clean this picture up because then it will be harder to delete my pictures,SO...
Here is a picture that I cropped in photobucket to show a group during during the peak of my crazy day yesterday. I have the Eastern Kingbird (Ken) and a Cardinal, a Baltimore Oriole, a male and female Orchard Oriole, a Blue Grosbeak and an Indigo Bunting hiding behind the branch in the water. ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!! Is that crazy or what?!? I have over 1200 pictures to go through and delete but what a terrible thing to have to suffer through
I will post pictures on my blog when I get a chance.
