I'm in Grenada now and it has been months since I saw this bird and took the shots. There aren't many raptors on St. Lucia but I still can't figure this out on my own. Perhaps due to the lousy shots, no one can help. The photos are terrible but so were my views of this bird each time I saw it. I am confused by the diagonal white wing patches. Could a Broad-winged have such markings?
I saw and heard this bird on three occasions and still couldn't get good views. The one time it was close, it flushed from a dense area of trees with a 'Red-tail' scream and was gone before I could get it in my bins (I was walking on the road next to the spot it flew from and was so startled I didn't react fast enough); very frustrating.
Thanks in advance for anything you can teach me.
