We live in southwest central Indiana about an hour north of Lake Monroe where eagles have been seen. We live on a 100 acre hobby farm with lots of ponds, timber, chickens, turkeys, etc. When driving in on Sunday May 24 up in a tree we saw a rapter bird about twice the size of a female red tailed hawk and larger than the many Turkey vultures we have. The hens had run into the covered chicken yard, and the rooster was standing bravely at the door.
This bird was brown with a golden tint. We believe it was a golden eagle which apparently are very rare in Indiana.
Anyone from around here ever seen one?
