Not sure this is the right place for this. Mystery bird may be better but I will get more views here I think. I hope I don't upset anyone.
On my first birding day here on Bonaire, I saw a dark bird at the edge of my binocular range standing on a mud flat. It was too distant to see well and I thought it must be a Noddy, but what a strange place for it. It flew off sometime later and I noticed white trailing edges on the secondaries. Obviously, not a Noddy.
The next day I went back. My husband, Gene, was with me because we had to check out a sail repair place in that direction. The bird was there again. We walked along the edge of the mudflat to get closer and I saw a pale goldish patch on the nape and when it flew it had a gold/tan tail. I didnít have my camera with me so I couldnít get a photo. I was really stumped.
I went again yesterday and was able to get distant photos. I came home and finally decided what it was. Gene gave a snort of derision when I told him what I thought it had to be. He claims this bird was half again the size of the bird Iím sure it is. I believe heís wrong about the size. Anyway we have a little wager going. I get Ďda kineí binoculars and he gets a gold Rolex. (Not that we have ever collected on any bets made aboard the Good Sloop Peregrine.)
I would appreciate some opinions on this bird. Especially opinions that agree with me. I will let you know later what my id is. Gene does not have a guess for the bird; only that it is not what I think it is.
Edit-For some reason, I can't get the manage attachments to work.
