Perhaps not as exciting as pratincole or Knot identification, but looking for some guidance in relation to Black tailed Godwit sub-species.
Recently, the first confirmed 'Continental' limosa Blk wits were recorded in Scotland by John Bowler on Tiree. This process was made easier by the fact that they had colour leg flags.
Most Scottish birders, like myself, were pretty surprised that this sub-species had not been documented before. 'Icelanic' islandica is the norm.
Are there any good papers tucked away on how to do the sub-species at different times of year? How far north in England to limosa birds regularly occur?
Attached a photo of another bird taken on Lewis over the weekend. How would you do this to sub-species?
