I.D. help again
Hi everyone, i bet you're all sick to death of me posting small, uninteresting brown birds that i cant I.D aren't you Well i have another one for you, which has me stumped! Was seen today in a flock of mixed birds inclusing Chiffchaff and various Tits. This bird was a fair bit bigger then a Chiffchaff, at least an inch or so. The only thing that springs to my mind is Spotted Flycatcher, but i can not see any streaking on the breast, and the wing bar present on this bird i cannot see on any picture of SF i have seen. Plus it looks more like a warbler to my untrained eye.
Edit: Infact looking at these again after i posted them i'm sure its not spotted flycatcher, so i really have no idea!
Thanks for your help again, James

Hi james, you never know, one of these days you might photograph a mega rarity and do everyone a favour!!
Anyway, your bird is a warbler, I want to say chiffchaff, but you say its a little bigger than other chiffchaffs, so im a little unshore, quite importantly did it make a call or sing?

I did not hear this bird call or sing. There were probably 8-10 bird together that originally drew my attention to this group, there were calls and short songs but i couldn't pin anything to one particular bird. One thing i can say is that i did not hear a chiffchaff song, However like you say it is a warbler, the legs look too dark for Willow Warbler so what else could it be?
Edit: I took this picture of what i take to be a chiffchaff, this bird was next to the first one briefly and the first was definitely bigger

Well Willow Warblers can have dark legs, I cant tell if the feet are pale brown or not. I would go with wiilow or chiff, but i await opinions of the others to confirm yes or no. I dont suppose you have a pic of the bird that isnt obstructed by parts of trees?

Thank Michael, Unfortunatly all the photo's had intrusions from bits of tree, but i have added the only other image i have for the sake of it.

Hmm i swear the first one was bigger then the one ID'd as a Chiff. Ah well, one day i will get the hang of it.
