    Smile Hello from Sussex

    Hello everyone, just joined today.

Been birding for quite a few years now, mainly locally.

Found a woodpigeons nest in the garden today, about 7 feet up in a privet hedge that has clematis growing through it. Only a few yards from the house. The bird actually built the nest several weeks ago then seemed to abandon it only to return in the last few days.

    Welcome to the crowd!

Maybe the Wood Pigeons thought that sufficient thick cover had grown around the nest to hide it better from Magpies. Or maybe just an increase in food availability (late summer is the most active nesting period for Wood Pigeons, though they will nest all year round if the food supply is good enough).
