This summer I observed and photographed 3 banded Least Terns on upper Texas coast. My first request to help with color bands brought many responses. I contacted several organizations and persons, but nobody was able to help find out who banded those birds. Now I have one more banded tern (just metal band) that I would like even more to know any info that is possible to find.
All bands are in the photo here:
Least Tern # 1 - just metal band on left leg (photo is flipped as band is upside down on the leg - is it any meaning of this?). I can read:
numbers top line: (4?)81.
Bottom line: 5 (space or ?) 57.
Perhaps somebody with banding experience can figure possible numbers better knowing the shape of imprints.
Least Tern #2 (first summer) looks like Christmas three:
Left leg: 2 bands - bicolor (violet over black) over metal band
Right leg: two white bands
Least Tern #3 (first summer)
Left leg: one metal
Right leg: one colored (white over red)
Again any help with locating a bander or organization who banded these terns I will appreciate a lot. Even if the metal band of first tern turn to be incomplete I wonder if there is enough numbers to identify age of the bird (most important info to me). Getting three angles from a close distance was already quite a challenge.
Thanks a lot for help.
All the best,
