For mid-September the passage of migrants has been very, very poor compared to previous years especially for small birds. Things changed dramatically this morning whilst walking my dog, Northern Wheatear everywhere, masses of Pied Flycatchers, several Whinchat and my first Bluethroat (the last not usually seen until the end of this month).
I have had a juvenile/1st winter Whinchat feeding in the meadow in front of my house all morning - this shot was actually taken from my study, through an open window, while I was sitting at my desk:
Hope all of you in the U.K. appreciate the heat-haze in the background!!
