On 21st September a local Dutch birder, Thijs Valkenburg, found and photographed a Long-billed Dowitcher and Buff-breasted Sandpiper at Lagoa dos Salgados:
I have spent much time trying to locate and photograph these birds (both would be lifers for me) but without success. I was set to go again this morning with the Land Rover fully loaded with optical and camera gear but the weather broke and we had heavy rain and useless light for photography so I didn't bother.
Just returned from my afternoon "doggie walk" around the Ria where I met a couple of Brits (birdwatchers rather than birders) who said that they were at Salgados this morning and both birds were approachable to within 10 yards and were almost "stroke-able" - $HIT !!!!
Won't sleep tonight and will go tomorrow whatever the weather.
