I am doing research for some paintings and wondered if anyone can answer a question about White-collared Seedeaters in Texas.
According to the Howard and Morre checklist they are Sporophila torqueola sharpei, and painted by Sibley as having prominent white wing bars. However, a search of images shows two types in Texas - unless I am making a mistake.
With wing bars - http://www.pbase.com/image/81968714
without - http://www.pbase.com/image/93147959 - and more here http://www.pbase.com/allen_dale/texas_2008
Do both types occur?
