A friend sent me this photo of a bird he'd seen on his feeders. He wanted some help identifying it - he thought it Sedge Warbler which it clearly is not. I don't have the faintest idea. It must be an escape. Has anyone got a clue?

Agree with Mark, but what a long and apparently decurved bill for a House Sparrow .

I can see why female house sparrow but I'm still confused by the apparent stripes on the coverts and the lack of a wing bar? Perhaps that's all part of this birds aberration along with its curved bill?

It's got its wing tucked into its flank feathers, so the wing bar is hidden, and the stripes are on its back.

I agree it's a female House Sparrow with a deformed bill.
