    Default mystery bird

I have been seeing a large ducklike bird flying into a huge tree cavity in my backyard. I live in New York State near the Pennsylvania border. I have not been able to get a picture. The bird is all white, orange feet and I think orange beak.
During the last two evenings, something has gotten into the nest, and on the ground the first morning were two large, eaten eggs and lots of the nesting material. The eggs are about 31/2 " long, beige in color. This am there were four more eggs. What would this bird be? Would a type of duck nest way up in a large tree?

    maybe looking like this:

    or this:,canard.jpg

probably an albinos mallard but may be of another species. The genus bucephala and mergus are the most likely encountered in tree holes...
