I have had one of my rare days when I get into the Land Rover and just go "somewhere different".
Weather not too good (better in London I believe) with a cold wind and lots of cloud. After two hour's drive I ended up in the Lower Alentejo at a locality I had never visited before and was amazed to find 25+ pairs of Lesser Kestrel nesting in a cluster of ruined buildings plus at least six pairs of Roller also nesting.
I am keeping the locality secret for now, but what an incredible place - I will go back soon. The kestrels were all feeding young and the Rollers were "rolling" like crazy (something I had not seen before), but impossible to photograph.
