Name that barnyard bird
Hi all! I recently visited Ireland, and saw these guys walking down the road near Killaloe. I suspect it's just a farm bird of some sort, but I can't find anything to actually ID it. Is it some kind of turkey? A very strange breed of chicken? I'm pretty much just looking for a name for it so I can label my pictures - SUCH a crazy looking animal!

It's a Helmeted Guineafowl (Numida Meleagris).

Yep, Helmeted Guineafowl
As an aside, actually Numida meleagris - the species name (meleagris) is never capitalised, only the genus name.

Just feel fortunate that you do not have them next to where you live; apart from Peacocks, these are the noisiest and most irksome birds I have ever experienced (my near neighbour has both species in considerable numbers - I have cut holes in his fence in an attempt to lure the local foxes in).

There are some at a farm within earshot of my house. When they start calling on an evening it sounds like bedsprings being pushed up and down. When we first moved in we thought we have very 'active' neighbours!
