I spent two weeks (May 19-June 1) this year in Top End, Northern Territory, Australia photographing birds. Perhaps some of you will find a few photos from this trip helpful or interesting. It is already three months passed after my visit and I was barely able to go through just a part of taken photos. Examples of all (or almost all - I think ) bird species I photographed there are in the folder here http://www.pbase.com/mbb/birds_austr...y_top_end_2010.
Main goal of this trip: Eastern Osprey (found to be quite rare in traveled area so I had to switch my interest to other species to not waste my time). Other important birds of interest (to me): Herons (found and photographed 10 species) - dipped on 2 expected: Black Bittern and White-necked Heron despite a lot of time invested on hired boats to find them ), Little Tern (I found only one small flock passing by along the shore) and Australasian Grebe. Bonus: Red Goshawk pair getting ready for this year nesting season.
I would like to ask those of you familiar with bird fauna from this region to help me with some IDs (verifying/correcting ). Especially in these folders:
http://www.pbase.com/mbb/leaden_flyc...ra_rubecula_nt Leaden Flycatcher - or maybe some females are Broad-billed?
http://www.pbase.com/mbb/rufous_whis...rufiventris_nt what about females?
Another folder is here http://www.pbase.com/mbb/ids_norther...tory_australia and includes collection of the species I either have no clues what the birds are or am quite not sure and need a confirmation.
Is this a single Sanderling here? http://www.pbase.com/mbb/image/127505529
This kingfisher has stripe above eye like a sacred but the stripe is white in color http://www.pbase.com/mbb/image/128183748
And this one has weird back colors and, I think, a quite large bill - collared? http://www.pbase.com/mbb/image/128182941
Plus many more species - BTW, one can always leave a short comment after clicking on ‘post a comment’ under the photo; no need to type a name or email address but I won’t know who wrote it. The comments left will not show to other visitors. Of course any more detailed comment posted here could benefit many more people.
I will appreciate any help a lot. Thanks in advance.
All the best,
