We have a problem here. We (my lifelong birdwatcher friend and I) spotted 5 birds that we can not identify. We have gone through the Collins 4 times but still no ID. We can only give you a description of what we saw because I could not take photos that moment.
Size: pigeon but much leaner like a blackbird
Color: on the back overall grayisch brown but with white stripes on the wings seen from below and a white chest
Flight: like a Great Spotted Woodpecker
Tail: broad but straight
We saw the birds on our neighbours land (600 ha. ie 1.500 acres) and will try to spot the birds tomorrow again.
But we can not stop discussing these birds
It was definately not a Wryneck, we have seen them a lot of times and these birds where bigger.
And last but not least, we spotted them flying away from a distance of only 8 meters so we had a real good look at them.
Any help is much appreciated.
