Hello and what is this
Always keen to see the various species in my back garden, but couldn't really call myself a serious bird spotter. In fact I tend to send the kids out into the back garden often to use up some of that endless noise and energy on shooing the various corvids away - blackbirds is there any point at all?
Anyway, today at approx 12.30pm (located in West Sussex approx four mile from the coast) saw this bird just outside my kitchen window - thought it was a Starling at first but is it something else? Comments, answers appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. It's a European Starling.

Hi there and welcome onto surfbirds, you were correct with starlings.

OK thanks fellas, I thought Starlings had yellow beaks and a green/purple sheen to their plumage. Was also looking at the particularly pointy beak of the bird I saw - thought that was unusual. How many types of Starlings are there?

That's the difference between summer plumage (what you are thinking of!) and winter plumage (what your pic shows). Yes, the bill colour changes too.
