by 2012 or soon after to designate the archaepelago of the European Channel Isles an MPA or Marine Protected Area with backing from UN
body UNESCO in Paris and DREAL who believe the area is one of Europes
most important areas for marine megafauna with the CHARM III
EU funded project hoping in 2011 from Granville on the Normandy coast near the UN UNESCO and RAMSAR reserve of the Baie de Mont St Michel
which has breeding Peregrine Falcon plus other rare birds like breeding
Black-winged Stilts, Kentish Plovers and Melodious Warblers, Golden Orioles
plus Red-backed Shrikes and Grey-headed Woodpeckers to name just a few of the birds breeding here plus tens of thousands of Scoters of a few species
including many records of Americana and Surf sometimes plus hundreds of Velvet and thousands of Balearic Shearwaters moulting with the Scoters in early Autumn when I recommend a visit to see the Dolphins here with a rare
ziphius cavirostris beached recently and two species of breeding Seals and ten or so cetacean species noted fairly regularly in the area including over 650 resident Bottle-nosed Dolphins one of the biggest populations in Europe!

Also GECC at Cherbourg do trips in the area for Dolphins and in Jersey in
summer South Coast Cruises offer superb value trips sometimes seeing Rissos Dolphins in autumn.At Granville Le Courier des Iles of Gilbert Hurel offers
outings to Chausey to see the nature including breeding Red-breasted Mergansers and many seabirds and waders plus Shelducks! It is a beautiful old sailing vessel and is fairly large! More details at Granville yacht club!
In Jersey at present many Siskins overhead moving and thousands of seabirds
and tens of thousands of Woodpigeons moving. Thousands of Divers of four species winter here and migrate through with thousands of Little Gulls and thousands of Kittiwakes. The islands in the Golfe Normand Breton have big seabird colonies in summer and I recommend a visit to Sark at:-
or Alderney which offers trips on the vessel Voyager to see the RAMSAR reserve of Burhou where Manx Shearwaters and Storm Petrels breed with 300 pairs of Puffins studied by the Alderney Wildlife Trust!
