    Default A question of colour

I am in my first week of Birdwatching so this maybe a simplistic question, but is there such a thing as colour variation of the same Bird? by this I mean I recently saw what I later found out to be a ChiffChaff, however, in Collins Bird Guide it shows the ChiffChaff as having a a Yellow tint on its Breast but the Bird I saw had lust a plain White Breast. Can anybody please help me with this.
    Many thanks.

Yes - Chiffchaffs are quite variable in this, more so than many birds. Part of it has to do with geographical origin (one that is whitish below may be a wintering bird from Scandinavia), part with the age of the bird (juveniles are often a bit yellower than adults).
