Anyone who has seen the news today will have heard about the devastation caused by flooding near Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Hundreds killed.
The flooding in centred on the town of Novo Friburgo. This is an important birding area and is visited by many British birders ever year. The famous Serra dos Tucanos Lodge run by British birder Andy Foster is just 15 minutes from the town.
Lets hope that everything is OK at Tucanos, and I'm sure everyone who has stayed there sends their best wishes to Andy and Cristina, and the staff.
Having seen the devastaion caused on the TV, it seems likely that some birding sites will be out of bounds for a while, such as the only easily accessable site for Grey-winged Cotinga in the world.
