What's the chances of a Nutcracker returning to the same spot for a second year running?
Only, I'm talking to a guy who has one pinned in Dublin. It's in the grounds of the UCD. He reckons it's mooching about under some yew trees and he can easily get to within a yard of it. One race of Nutcracker is notoriously confiding, isn't it? I'm sure I've seen a photo of one perched on a Twitcher.
Directions are: " If you head for the AIB after coming in off the N11 they (the yew trees) are on the right just after the running track but before the road ends where the barrier is. " Anyone in reach of Dublin?
Now, obviously, I asked this guy if he was certain it wasn't just a winter starling (I didn't ask if he was on drugs! ) and yeppers; He's perfectly aware of what starlings look like and reckons this thing to be " The size of a jay. " ~ Check ye Collins ....!
Best bit is; He, or his brother, one of the two, saw a Nutcracker in this exact same spot, last winter. I can't help but wonder if the bugger hid some food last year and has come back for it?!
Anyway, he's going to try for a photo today. Anyone care to comment on what we know so far? I'm just curious. I'm also absolutely gutted that I can't get to bloody Dublin!
