Can anyone help me with the identificaton of this very large flock of high soaring birds seen in Southern France at grid reference 43°44'58.37"N, 0°21'34.01"W.
They were flying North-East at 14:40 European time on 7th March 2011. A loud noise was coming from them but not like the usual geese noise I hear in Southern England and a second group formed with them after the photo and some of them, but only a small percentage did form some geese like lines as they flew north -east.
I suspect that these are geese - but I did not know they could soar. The photo, although very poor, does not seem to show many birds flapping, only soaring which I recall to be the case. You may wish to magnify the picture to see this. I also recall a white under neck and some white on the underside of the wings.
Can anyone help?
