A friend asked if I could get help identifying this bird. He described it as a bird of prey, based on its size as much as anything else. I thought it might be an owl ? Any ideas will be helpful. Seen in the SE of the UK recently.

It looks like a Grey Heron to me.

Looks like a male Hen Harrier to me, Dave. I've seen them in Hampshire.

It has pale inner wing coverts contrasting with the darker secondaries and outer wing, but doesn't have black primary tips, so a Grey Heron as Neil said, not a Hen Harrier.

After looking more at the full shot I think I'd agree, a Heron - the feet may just be visible. Thanks.
