    Default Mountain Doves, Southern Oregon

Can someone tell me why a pair of mountain doves would set up a nest in a hanging basket by our kitchen window and after laying two eggs not return. They took three days to make the nest and after she laid two eggs both left and never returned.

This is driving my wife nuts.

Most likely too much disturbance. Probably they could see you watching through the window, and took fright. Whenever birds nest, always allow them maximum privacy and freedom from intrusion.

I didn't choose the spot for the nest and we would sit outside not 12 feet away as they built the nest. A local wildlife expert says they are prime food for hawks and we have a lot of hawks, bald eagles and ospreys.
