Went out today for my first official birding adventure. Brought my camera and binoculars. I was unable to get good pictures but here is a list of the birds i saw.
-Cedar Waxwing (Saw one by a swamp flying around eating insects. Then 3 flew overhead and were all perched on a branch. I got a few good looks before they flew off. Amazing bird)
-Indigo Bunting (Pretty sure there was a pair, got a quick glimpse before they flew off)
-White Breasted Nut Hatch ( Heard the call and saw them pecking away at a tree limb. Saw 2 seperate ones)
-Red Bellied Woodpecker (As I was leaving I saw 2 females and one male)
-Northern Cardinal (Very common in Illinois)
-Blue Jays (Had not seen Blue Jays in awhile, i was worried the West Nile had knocked most of them off. Very glad to see them)
I had a fantastic time. The waxwing really made my day! What a great hobby this is. I definitely have the bug!
FYI All these birds were found in the Salt Creek Forest Preserve in Western Springs IL
