Dave Hatton did well in locating Cambridgeshire's first-ever COMMON ROSEFINCH as he drove past in his car last weekend. The bird, a rather drab first-summer male - see attached images below, is still present, frequenting the tall conifers in the grounds of Foxfield House and Farm, situated on Fowlmere Road just east of Melbourn (at TL 399 458). The bird is singing very frequently and can be seen well at intervals from the road adjacent. There is some parking space on the road nearby but it is preferable to park at Fowlmere RSPB reserve and walk back along the road to view.
