    Default American Porcupine

    Not quite 'been birding today', but at the weekend we had a nice family walk in Warwick State Forest on the lower slopes of Mt. Grace, Massachusetts. It was pretty quiet bird-wise but very much enlivened by three North American Porcupines feeding in the same Eastern Hemlock. I've seen quite a few porcupines in New England forests over the years but I've never come across three together!

    The animals allowed a fairly close approach after some bush-whacking;

    Close by, there was a nice juvenile Yellow-bellied Sapsucker.
